European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE)

FEDARENE (European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment)

FEDARENE organises and develops exchanges of experience, partnerships and collaboration between its members. It represents and promotes local and regional dimensions to the European institutions and in debates related to energy and the environment at EU level.

FEDARENE (European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment) is the collective voice on the energy transition for regions and local/regional energy agencies. FEDARENE’s members drive the energy transition and climate action in their territories through ambitious policy development and strategic facilitation actions. Since 1990, FEDARENE is:

  • a leading partner for actors involved in local energy demand and supply;
  • an initiator of ideas;
  • a forum for promoting co-operation and sharing of experiences;
  • an information and advice centre.

The federation counts over 80 members across 24 countries in the European Union, drawing on the advice of 850 experts.

Over the years, they have successfully supported the creation of new agencies as well as energy and greenhouse gas observatories. Since 2012, FEDARENE runs an informal network of such observatories for regions and municipalities to exchange on data collection and climate policies. It is also involved in the Covenant of Mayors - Europe initiative, the Energy Communities Repository, and the European City Facility.
