The Interreg NEXT MED Programme has officially launched its latest Call for Green Transition Projects, offering €83.7 million in EU funding to support innovative solutions addressing climate challenges across the Mediterranean region. With a submission deadline of 15 April 2025, this initiative invites organisations to collaborate on projects that drive sustainability and climate resilience.

Building on Success: A New Phase of Climate Action

This second call follows the success of the previous round, which saw 630 proposals submitted. The programme is focused on tackling urgent environmental issues in a region that is warming 20% faster than the global average. It targets areas such as energy efficiency, circular economy, climate adaptation, disaster resilience, and sustainable water management, while also addressing decarbonisation for small and medium enterprises, green innovation, and climate resilience skills. The programme further includes adaptation of health systems to climate change and encourages inclusive governance to enhance climate policies.

Who Can Apply? Broad Geographical Coverage and Eligibility

Geographically, the programme spans over 100 territories across 15 participating countries, including seven European Union nations (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Spain) and eight partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, and Türkiye). To qualify, projects must involve a minimum of three organisations from three eligible countries, with at least one partner from a Mediterranean Partner Country.

The call is open to a wide range of applicants, including public authorities, municipalities, non-profit organisations, universities, research institutions, private companies, and other relevant stakeholders.

Funding Details and Focus on Eco-Youth Initiatives

Projects can seek funding between €700,000 and €3.5 million, with the programme contributing up to 89% of eligible costs. The remaining 11% must be co-financed by applicants. A significant portion of the funding, €16 million, has been allocated to Eco-Youth Projects, which aim to empower young people to lead the green transition through youth-focused initiatives.

Information Events and Application Process

To assist applicants, the programme will organise information events both online and in-person across the cooperation area, with details to be announced shortly on the programme’s website. Interested organisations are encouraged to review the application pack and submit proposals through the designated online application form before the deadline on 15 April 2025 at 1 pm CET.
