Description
The Smart Cities Marketplace, an EU-supported initiative bringing together cities, industry, investors and research organisations, has published a new practitioner's guide: "Smart Solutions for CO2 Reduction". Part of a series of over 20 solution booklets, it offers city officials a practical, example-rich resource for tackling climate risks and decarbonisation.
What the guide covers
The booklet is organised around six themes:
Groundwork & Foresight, on building stakeholder support and flexibility;
Governance & Process, on aligning local and multi-level government action around a shared city vision;
Finance & Business Models, on financing risks and investable pipelines;
Regulation, on balancing experimentation with stability;
Social & Behavioural, on engaging citizens from the outset;
and Technology, on forecasting and closing the digital divide.
Drawing on real examples, including the City of Bilbao's cross-departmental Smart City Planning Group and NetZeroCities' Climate Transition Teams, the guide is designed as a navigation tool rather than a comprehensive manual, helping practitioners identify where to start and where to find deeper guidance.
