Description
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a new report titled “Renewable energy statistics 2025”. The report provides datasets detailing global power-generation capacity from 2015 to 2024, actual power generation from 2015 to 2023, and the shares of renewable energy flows in over 150 countries and areas from 2022 to 2023. Statistics on renewable energy investments can also be found in the report, with information compiled from the OECD-DAC database and 16 major development financial institutions.
IRENA is an organization that produces datasets on worldwide energy capacity and use. Sources for the data include an IRENA questionnaire, national statistics, industry association reports, consultant reports, and news articles.
An executive summary of the report and an accompanying brief about the major global renewable energy trends are also available. IRENA has also published previous editions and numerous other reports on electricity generation and capacity datasets from 2000 onwards, which are available on its website. Tools to further analyse the data are also available.
In the report, investment data is presented in millions of United States dollars at 2022 prices. Data on energy capacity is presented in megawatts (MW), and generation is presented in gigawatt-hours (GWh). The data for most capacity figures represent the amount installed and connected at the end of the calendar year.
