Homegrown Energy Webinar Series - Setting-up and management of energy communities

Many local authorities still face barriers in setting up energy communities: lack of information, unclear legal frameworks, limited technical capacity, or simply not knowing where to start. This webinar is the last one in theHomegrown Energy Webinar Series, organised by the EU Covenant of Mayors in collaboration with partner projects and initiatives, including the Citizen Energy Advisory Hub, ISLET and ManagEnergy. It provides a comprehensive and hands-on overview of the full lifecycle of an energy community, focusing especially on the steps needed for its successful creation, and on those needed to make it sustainable.

Christiane Egger (OÖ Energiesparverband) presents examples from Upper Austria, "the region of Energy Communities", where 800 Renewable Energy Communities and 130 Citizen Energy Communities are currently in operation, together with over 36,000 members. Francisco Puente (ESCAN) presents how a business model, a strategic tool based on the CANVAS methodology, can be used to design viable energy communities, illustrated by a real life implementation in Getafe, Spain, where a Renewable Energy Community established in December 2024 already counts more than 30 members.
