Description

Read this study from Enefirst to find out more about the level of end-use energy efficiency measures in the building sector that would provide the greatest benefit for the European Union in transitioning to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. By using a suite of energy system models, three scenarios were investigated, each of them reaching the net-zero target. The scenarios differ regarding the ambition level for building retrofits, energy-efficient appliances, and other energy efficiency measures in residential and nonresidential buildings. The study has shown that while the modeled energy efficiency measures require substantial capital costs, they also reduce the cost of decentralized heating systems, generation, and distribution of electricity and district heating, hydrogen supply, and other supply side resources.
