Waver Virtual Power Plant Empowers Local Communities in the Energy Transition

Virtual tools increasingly shape our real lives, optimizing sectors like logistics, food production, and healthcare in ways we often don’t notice. Now, in Warsaw’s Wawer District, the Mazovia Energy Agency (MAE) is pioneering a tangible energy initiative: the Wawer Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Starting with the Wawer Energy Cluster, MAE launched the VPP in 2021 to monitor public building energy usage and encourage residents to invest in personal PV systems, integrating local households, government buildings, and schools into a unified system.

Using cutting-edge telecom and measurement technology, the VPP provides real-time energy generation and consumption data for over 30 public and private buildings. This smart planning tool promotes more affordable energy and reliable supply for the community.

An interactive energy monitor, displayed on a mural at the district council building, highlights the benefits of the VPP, showing energy generated, costs saved, and carbon emissions reduced. Soon, residents from various Warsaw districts will be able to track their progress, compare results, and see firsthand how local renewable energy initiatives are advancing climate action—making green energy more accessible through digital innovation.
