The Regio1st project has launched an innovative mentoring program to support local and regional authorities in integrating the Energy Efficiency First (EE1st) principle into their planning and decision-making frameworks. Open to authorities and stakeholders across Europe, this program provides expert insights, practical tools, and personalized mentorship for embedding energy efficiency as a foundational element in regional and local planning.
The EE1st principle encourages authorities to prioritize energy-saving measures before making investments in new energy infrastructure, promoting a sustainable energy transition across Europe. This mentorship initiative aims to give participants the skills and resources to apply EE1st effectively in their regions.
The program focuses on three key areas:
- Energy Efficiency in Plans: Guidance on using the Regio1st Planning Framework to integrate energy efficiency within regional energy and climate plans.
- Multilevel Governance: Emphasis on collaborative efforts between local, regional, and national levels to implement EE1st in energy and climate policy.
- Just Transition Fund: Strategies for accessing funds like the Just Transition Fund to support energy efficiency projects and secure financial resources.
Participants will engage in interactive training sessions led by experienced mentors from pilot regions with established EE1st strategies. This peer-to-peer format fosters knowledge-sharing, allowing participants to exchange insights, learn from successful practices, and create a supportive network focused on advancing sustainable energy solutions.
Applications are open until the end of November 2024, and the program will officially commence in January 2025. Successful applicants will be paired with mentors and grouped according to their interests and goals. Sessions will be conducted online, ensuring accessibility for participants across Europe.
