POWERYOUTH, funded with €1.5 million from the LIFE programme, is designed to empower young people by offering a participatory platform for voicing opinions, a tool for collective decision-making, and a resource to support innovative business models and funding strategies.

Building on AdEPorto's previous success with the ASPRELA +Sustentável project—aimed at helping Porto mitigate climate change and achieve carbon neutrality—POWERYOUTH is developing a Living Lab in Asprela. This lab will test innovative services and technologies focused on decarbonization in areas such as the circular economy, sustainable urban mobility, energy, building efficiency, literacy, and community involvement.

Asprela, home to 30,000 residents and visited by around 60,000 people daily, hosts seven universities, 82 business incubators, a central hospital, and numerous research and technology companies. Through POWERYOUTH, youth participation will help advance renewable energy communities in this vibrant area.

By the end of the project, a replicable capacity-building program will train young people in green energy skills, positioning them as Youth Energy Community Leaders. POWERYOUTH will also collaborate with youth organizations like YES-EUROPE, as well as local authorities and policymakers through the ALDA network, to promote and replicate the Energy Communities model across Europe.
