Local authorities and municipalities in Europe have immense potential to lead the energy transition. By creating comprehensive sustainable energy investment programs, they can consolidate smaller projects into larger portfolios and attract significant financial resources for the transition. The European City Facility (EUCF) aims to harness this local potential, enabling municipalities and their associations to develop impactful investment concepts.
The 7th and last call for applications opens on October 15 and closes on December 18, 2024.
To date, six application rounds have aided over 300 municipalities across Europe in accelerating their investments. The seventh and final call for applications opens on October 15 and will close on December 18, 2024.
The EUCF offers a lump-sum payment of €60,000 along with hands-on support to help local entities create investment concepts focused on clean energy and energy efficiency. This funding can be used for various initiatives, such as technical feasibility studies, market analyses, stakeholder engagement, and legal or financial assessments—allowing applicants to tailor their projects to their specific needs.
Application Process
The application process is straightforward, requiring similar documentation to previous EUCF calls. Applicants must demonstrate political support, outline the potential investment size, and describe the expected energy-related impacts, along with governance and stakeholder engagement plans. This information aligns with the requirements for accessing most public or private funding.
In addition to financial support, selected beneficiaries will receive capacity building, matchmaking opportunities, and dedicated financing tools to help bring their project ideas closer to securing funding.
The application deadline is 17:00 CET on December 18, 2024.
