In 2021, the CEF Energy programme introduced a new cross-border renewable energy (CB RES) window. This initiative supports renewable energy projects that involve either physical or non-physical cross-border collaboration between EU Member States, or between Member States and non-EU countries.
The CB RES programme focuses on the generation of renewable energy from technologies such as onshore and offshore wind, solar power, sustainable biomass, ocean energy, geothermal energy, or combinations of these. It also supports their connection to the grid and includes elements like storage or conversion facilities. Additionally, under certain conditions, CB RES projects may incorporate non-renewable energy generation components.
Since its launch, the CB RES programme has awarded over EUR 90 million to 14 projects, helping to meet EU decarbonisation targets by enhancing national efforts to deploy renewable energy and improve energy supply security.
Today, CINEA launches the 4th call to obtain the status of cross-border renewable energy projects (CB RES status) and therefore enter a list of projects eligible for CEF funding (CB RES list). vv
This call is particularly significant because obtaining the official CB RES status is a mandatory prerequisite for accessing financial support for studies and works under the CEF Energy Programme. Gaining CB RES status can also bring additional benefits such as higher visibility, increased investor confidence, and stronger support from EU countries.
Project promoters who wish to apply for CB RES status can submit their applications via the CB RES submission platform by 7 January 2025.
