Interest in home energy renovation is growing across Europe. But how do you turn that interest into real, deliverable projects?

At a recent workshop in Dublin, partners of the Support Service for Citizen-led Renovation (CLR) explored exactly this question. Their conclusion is clear: engagement alone is not enough. Successful citizen-led projects require structure, clear goals, and continuous support.

From defining a shared objective to ensuring financial clarity and building a committed core group, projects need the right conditions to move forward. Early involvement of key actors, including local authorities and contractors, also plays a crucial role in turning ideas into reality.

Another key takeaway is that access to funding must be matched with guidance. Without coordination, technical support, and clearly defined roles, many initiatives struggle to progress beyond the initial stages.

The CLR initiative is working to address these challenges by supporting communities with practical tools, guidance, and financing pathways to deliver renovation projects across Europe.
