RENOVERTY Launches Roadmaps for Energy Renovation in Rural Areas

RENOVERTY’s newly published Rural Renovation Roadmaps offer practical tools for energy-poor rural communities across Europe to tackle building inefficiency and align with EU climate goals.

The EU LIFE project RENOVERTY has released a set of Rural Renovation Roadmaps aimed at making energy-efficient renovation more accessible to households and municipalities in rural Europe. These roadmaps provide practical, locally adapted guidance to address energy poverty, reduce emissions, and support the EU’s path to climate neutrality.

Co-developed with Local Action Groups in seven countries—Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Portugal, and Spain—the roadmaps target challenges often overlooked by mainstream renovation schemes: outdated infrastructure, lack of funding, and limited professional capacity.

Tailored for both individual homeowners and public stakeholders, the roadmaps include:

  • Clear steps for technical and financial planning
  • Support for low-income or isolated households
  • Guidance aligned with the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
  • A framework for municipalities to plan and coordinate local action

With over 75% of buildings still energy inefficient and rural households facing higher energy vulnerability, these resources are timely and essential. RENOVERTY’s co-creation model ensures local needs and social dimensions are fully integrated.
