The European Energy Communities Facility is inviting organisations to apply for its second call for proposals, which opens on 5 May 2026 and closes on 5 July 2026.

The European Energy Communities Facility is an initiative funded by the European Union to support the development of citizen-led energy projects across Europe. It provides financial assistance and technical support to emerging and existing energy communities such as cooperatives, local authorities, and non-profit organisations  that aim to produce, manage, or share renewable energy at the local level. By helping communities prepare solid business plans and investment concepts, the Facility seeks to accelerate the transition to clean energy, strengthen local ownership of energy systems, and promote more democratic, resilient, and sustainable energy models in line with EU climate and energy objectives.

Through this second call, the European Energy Communities Facility will support energy communities across 31 European countries, offering selected applicants a lump sum grant of €45,000 to develop a robust business plan for their project. In addition to financial support, beneficiaries will gain access to a comprehensive capacity-building programme, including tailored training, practical guidance, and ongoing support from a network of national experts in their local language. The application process includes an eligibility self-check, submission through an online portal, and an independent evaluation phase based on transparent criteria. Selected projects will then move into a structured development phase, where their business plans will be refined, monitored, and validated with expert support, followed by implementation and impact-sharing activities.

To help applicants navigate the process, an online information session will take place on 6 May 2026 at 10:00 CET. The session will cover eligibility criteria and provide step-by-step guidance on preparing and submitting a strong application. The session will be conducted in English and recorded for later viewing.

In addition, national experts will organise country-specific information sessions in local languages. See the event details.
