The European Commission has officially launched the EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform—a strategic tool to help European industry secure access to critical energy products and raw materials in support of the green transition and industrial competitiveness.
This brand-new Platform is set to facilitate market access, accelerate diversification, and enhance security of supply across Europe. It introduces a set of mechanisms tailored to different commodities, starting with hydrogen and its derivatives—such as ammonia, methanol, and electro-sustainable aviation fuels.
The first major initiative under this umbrella is the Hydrogen Mechanism, now open for registrations. This mechanism is expected to catalyse hydrogen market development by:
- Matching demand and supply across the EU
- Supporting infrastructure planning and development
- Facilitating access to both public and private financing
🚀 During the launch event, Commissioner Dan Jørgensen delivered opening remarks, followed by a comprehensive walkthrough by the Directorate-General for Energy, including a live demonstration on how to register and engage with the Platform.
💡 While this inaugural session was by invitation only, organisations interested in participating can express their interest directly by emailing: EU-ENERGY-PLATFORM
ec [dot] europa [dot] eu (EU-ENERGY-PLATFORM[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu).
This initiative operates under Regulation EU/2024/1789, which mandates the European Commission to run such mechanisms via the European Hydrogen Bank until 2029.
