On 12 February 2025, the European Commission released the strategic Communication titled "The Road to the Next Multiannual Financial Framework," initiating discussions on the direction of the EU’s upcoming long-term budget. This new financial framework, set to start in 2028, tackles vital policy and budgetary challenges, emphasising the urgent need for greater flexibility, simplification, and strategic investment across Europe.
At the heart of the upcoming budget are key priorities crucial for Europe’s future, notably sustainability, competitiveness, and innovation, especially in the clean energy sector. The next long-term EU budget aims to balance stable national contributions with the introduction of innovative financial mechanisms, enhancing Europe's capacity to respond efficiently to geopolitical, economic, and climate challenges.
In this context, the European Commission invites all European citizens, businesses, and relevant stakeholders to actively participate in shaping this critical financial instrument. A public consultation has been launched and will remain open until 6 May 2025, providing a structured platform to voice your perspectives.
The consultation includes seven specific surveys addressing key sectors, notably the "EU Funding for Competitiveness," which focuses explicitly on investments and reforms needed to bolster innovation and sustainability for a robust clean energy transition.
Additionally, the Commission has established a European Citizens Panel to ensure broad-based citizen engagement. This panel offers an inclusive opportunity for 150 citizens to deliberate, debate, and put forward concrete recommendations, thus directly influencing the shape and priorities of the next EU budget.
Your contributions and insights are crucial in ensuring that the future EU budget effectively addresses Europe's collective ambitions and challenges. Whether you're a citizen, a business representative, or a stakeholder in energy, your voice will help determine how Europe prioritises and allocates its financial resources.
Participate now to help define a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous European future. Go to consultation
