As part of its upcoming Strategy for Housing Construction, the European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather feedback on building permit procedures and digital permitting systems across Europe.
Led by DG GROW, this initiative supports the broader Affordable Housing Plan, responding to Europe’s growing housing crisis. The goal is to identify key bottlenecks, reduce delays and administrative burdens, and explore how digitalisation can improve housing construction and renovation.
📌 Why is this important?
Permitting delays are a major obstacle to housing supply, affecting both new builds and renovations. Streamlining and digitising these processes can reduce costs, improve productivity, and accelerate sustainable construction across the EU.
🗣 Who should respond?

- Public authorities (local, regional, national)
- Industry professionals (builders, developers, planners)
