The European Commission’s European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has introduced Green Assist: Project Advisory, an initiative designed to accelerate the transition towards sustainable energy across Europe. This free advisory service, funded by the LIFE Programme, supports stakeholders by providing tailored expert guidance on project design, funding strategies, and technical innovations – all aimed at overcoming the challenges of decarbonising existing energy systems and modernising ageing infrastructure.

What’s on Offer

Green Assist is a key component of the Commission’s broader strategy to meet ambitious climate targets. The advisory service offers practical, expert insights into:

  • Project Design and Implementation: Assisting cities, municipalities, and energy providers in navigating the complexities of modernising infrastructure and integrating renewable energy sources.
  • Financial Instruments and Investment Models: Providing up-to-date advice on accessing innovative funding mechanisms to support sustainable investments.
  • Technical Expertise: Guiding stakeholders on optimising energy transmission, distribution, storage systems, and incorporating renewables effectively.

How to Express Your Interest

To benefit from Green Assist, stakeholders with a concrete investment project within the EU are invited to submit a request via the InvestEU central entry point. Simply follow the link on the Green Assist page, click the yellow ‘Central Entry point’ button, and complete the online questionnaire. Should your application not receive an immediate response, it will be reallocated through the InvestEU Management Information System, ensuring that every project is duly considered.

The Advisory Process

Green Assist selects projects based on eligibility criteria and priority factors, including project maturity, environmental impact, potential for scaling up green solutions, and replicability. Once approved, a CINEA-appointed contractor contacts beneficiaries to refine project details, define deliverables, and set timelines. An interview follows to ensure the best expert match from the Roster, fostering a transparent and collaborative process.

Participation is completely free, with the only requirement being adherence to the Beneficiary Charter, ensuring a respectful and objective working relationship. While CINEA and the European Commission oversee the process, they do not endorse expert findings or claim ownership of final deliverables, which remain with the beneficiary.
