The De-risking Energy Efficiency Platform (DEEP), developed by DG ENER, is the largest open-source database of energy efficiency projects in buildings and industry across Europe. It contains detailed technical and financial information on more than 37,000 projects and provides a solid evidence base to assess the performance, risks, and benefits of energy efficiency investments.
What Can You Find on DEEP?
DEEP compiles verified performance track records and offers key financial indicators, including payback time and avoidance costs, helping project developers, financiers, and investors benchmark their projects against a wide dataset. Financial institutions can upload individual projects or portfolios and compare them with selected subsets of the database, improving risk assessment and supporting more standardised approaches to financing energy efficiency.
How Users Can Contribute to the Platform
The European Commission encourages stakeholders to contribute data, as broader participation strengthens the evidence needed to de-risk energy efficiency finance and supports EU decarbonisation goals. Energy-efficient buildings and industrial processes represent cost-effective energy resources and also deliver non-energy benefits such as reduced pollution and improved indoor comfort.
Data submission is straightforward, with options to enter information directly online or via an Excel upload sheet. An API is under development to facilitate automated uploads and access to aggregated analyses. All data remains confidential and is only displayed in aggregated form on the DEEP platform.
DEEP serves as a practical tool for evaluating energy efficiency opportunities and promoting informed investment decisions across Europe. Check it out now to learn and contribute to energy efficiency!
