Description
As the demand for renewable energy rises, small hydropower plants have multiplied across Europe—often considered a low-impact alternative to large dams. But is their environmental footprint truly minimal?
On 13 May 2025, the RENEWAT project will host its first webinar titled “Does Small Hydro Mean Small Impacts?” This interactive session will examine the often-overlooked ecological effects of small hydro installations, especially on river connectivity, aquatic biodiversity, and ecosystem health.
The event will feature expert contributions, including Marie-Pierre Gosselin from the Norwegian Institute of Nature Research, who brings deep expertise in ecohydraulics, freshwater species, and hydromorphology. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how small hydro shapes river ecosystems—and how to better assess its impact.
This webinar is ideal for local energy stakeholders, environmental agencies, and public authorities working at the intersection of renewable energy and environmental protection.
📩 Don’t miss this opportunity to challenge assumptions and expand your knowledge on sustainable hydropower.
