Local authorities and cleantech companies: a common story for Europe’s decarbonised industrial future

Europe’s clean energy transition depends not only on policy frameworks and financing, but also on how cleantech is understood and communicated. A strong and positive narrative around clean technologies, their local economic value, their contribution to energy security and their capacity to create skilled jobs is essential to build public support, political will and market confidence.

Cleantech SMEs working on solutions such as heating and cooling, energy storage, green hydrogen, smart grids and advanced building materials are key actors in the energy transition. Presenting them as strategic industrial and environmental assets can influence how communities, investors and policymakers engage with them.

Local and regional authorities also play a central role. They set local energy and climate targets, develop and implement SECAPs, manage public buildings and infrastructure, commission renovations, and help shape the planning and regulatory environment in which businesses operate.

This webinar will draw on the findings of Energy Efficiency Watch 5 and connect them with practical experience from the Basque Country. Organised in cooperation with the EU Covenant of Mayors, the session will explore how local actors can support cleantech adoption, strengthen cooperation with companies in their territories, and build positive regional narratives around the clean energy transition.
