Description
As cities across Europe take on a central role in the energy transition, this conference brings together mayors, councillors, city professionals, energy experts, policymakers and other urban stakeholders to share strategies, insights and practical experience. The European Conference on City Energy will take place on 18 March 2026 in Ghent, Belgium, offering a chance to deepen understanding of how city-level leadership can shape effective, inclusive and forward-looking local energy strategies.
The transition towards sustainable and decentralised energy systems involves not only technical change but also governance innovation, economic opportunity and community engagement. Cities face rising energy demand, pressure to modernise infrastructure, and the need to ensure energy remains affordable for households and competitive for local businesses. In this context, political leadership and collaboration among local actors are critical to unlock investment, align stakeholders and develop robust local energy economies.
Hosted by the cities of Ghent and Antwerp, the conference will feature high-level plenary sessions, policy discussions and showcases of city-led innovation. Participants will explore how local authorities can position themselves as central drivers of the energy transition, deliver policy recommendations to national and European decision-makers, and build strategic alliances that accelerate progress.
Attendees can expect opportunities to connect with peers from across Europe, engage in strategic dialogue, and gain actionable insights into the political, economic and social dimensions of urban energy transformation. Whether you are a city official, energy practitioner, regulator or researcher, this event provides a space to learn from leading experiences and shape the future of city energy policy.
